This time of year most people are searching for the “Perfect Team.” Parents, players and even coaches are seeking the “Perfect Team.”
Coaches want a team full of talented players that are all willing to play any position and bat anywhere in the line-up. They also cheer loud when they are sitting out and never complain. They want a team full of parents that never question any decision.
Some parents want a team that is filled with great players but not quite as good as their daughter. They also want a perfect coach. One that is great at teaching fundamentals and does a great job managing the game. They also want a coach with high moral character that runs great practices and see’s their child in the same light as they do. Most want a coach that has high expectations but isn’t too tough on their child. They also don’t want to pay an arm and a leg.
Players want to play on teams with their friends but also want to play with other players who are just as serious about softball as they are. They also want coaches that motivate them and are able to teach them. Most want to play their favorite positions and get a lot of playing time on the highest possible team.
From what I have found is their really is no such thing as a perfect season, perfect coach, perfect player or perfect parent. We all have our flaws and none of us are perfect. Some of the most important things in life is how do we respond when things aren’t perfect? Some of my most most rewarding coaching experiences have been with teams that had their struggles early on but as the season went on the players, parents and coaches learned how to respect and work with each other. Take pride when you can say I liked that coach, player or parent. Make the best of any situation you are in. If your in that season that seems perfect just sit back and enjoy it
