The biggest thing that gets in the way of success is the FEAR of failing.

In Fast-Pitch Softball it is a reality. The greatest hitters FAIL 6 out of 10 at bats. Batters worry about striking out, pitchers worry about walking batters, fielders worry about making a crucial error. There is no way of getting around FEAR, it will always be there.

Team Chemistry and a Positive atmosphere can help lessen the FEAR OF FAILURE. The Coach that yells and screams anytime a player makes a physical mistake isn't helping and is probably making things worse. The teammate that rolls her eyes and shakes her head is making things worse. The parent in the stands that moans loudly is also creating a negative environment. All players at one point will fail.

The Alabama Kicker talked about how after one of the biggest misses in NCAA History his teammates had his back. I would have loved to see him get another chance. Having someones back can be harder than it looks. But it is a necessity in creating a positive team culture.

I can promise these are the types of things college coaches will look for when scouting your daughters.

What type of teammate is she? We all spend hundreds of hours on hitting, fielding, pitching and more but how much time do we spend talking about being a good teammate and picking each other up? As a coach we need to be picked up sometimes as well. When I send a runner home and she is thrown out by 10 feet with nobody out, it helps me when the next few hitters come up big.

Picking each other up and having each others back WON'T stop players/teams from failing but if you know your team has your back, failing won't be so scary. When players aren't as afraid to fail, I can promise it won't happen as often. Take pride in being that player, coach or parent that helps create a positive environment.

I CAN PROMISE THAT YOU WILL WIN MORE GAMES AND IT WILL BE A LOT MORE FUN IF EVERYONE BUYS IN!
